Gerald Bull

During the 1960s and 1970s Gerald Bull operated called Space Research on the Vermont/Quebec border. The company, which produced weaponry, straddled the border at Jay, Vermont/Highwater, Quebec.

Fast forward a few years and Bull found himself sitting in an American prison fuming that the U.S. government not only abandoned him but had allowed him to be sent to prison for violating the U.S. arms embargo against South Africa. Once out of prison Bull renounced his American citizenship and moved to Belgium. His luck began to spiral even more downhill when he began working with the country of Iraq to produce a “Super Gun” that would allow that country to launch bombs into Israel.

On March 22, 1990 Bull was assassinated. Speculation is that the hit was carried out by the Israeli Intelligence Agency, the Mossad. The October 2009 issue of Vermont’s Northland Journal will feature the story behind Space Research. I am now looking for people with memories and photos of Space Research to share. Because of time constraints I’ll need information as soon as possible. However, for future use and to record this interesting part of our region’s history, I plan on collecting such material about Space Research on an ongoing basis. If you have either you’d like to share please email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
